Ali Thomson was born and grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. Music was a major influence on his early life as he saw his older brother, Dougie, enjoy international success as a member of the legendary rock band Supertramp. "Although I was still very young, it gave me a glimpse of the power and potential of music" says Ali, "and I was determined to be involved ".
Ali landed himself a publishing deal and then a solo recording contract with A & M records before his 20th birthday. His debut single 'Take a Little Rhythm' went top 10 in the USA, Canada, Japan and various other territories. Follow up singles, album and tour consolidated his reputation but within a few years Ali had decided that the fickle world of the recording artist was not for him and so he concentrated his efforts on song writing and record production.
He has gone on to win SOCAN and ASCAP awards, been nominated for a GRAMMY and over the last few years his songs have featured on albums that have sold in excess of 10 million copies. Many of those tracks becoming hit singles. His success is not limited to one territory or genre; indeed some of his biggest sellers are with artists not known in the UK or USA.
His collaborations are just as varied. His work with Swedish songwriter Andreas Carlsson has resulted in a variety of slick pop hits, where as his songs with artists such as Brian Kennedy or Roch Voisine, show a more acoustic, organic style.
Although Ali has the obligatory Pro Tools recording system in his home studio, he is just as happy to sit down with guitar, pen and paper and write that next song.
He now lives in the South of England with his wife and two daughters.
